Just like centuries ago in the audience hall of the palace in Ryphqi City, he moved without thinking about it. Called out Alaïs' name as he threw himself into harm's way to defend her. Moved on instincts honed across centuries of trauma, constant training, and the heightened need for self preservation. Didn't care about the …

The ringing crash of steel on steel brought her spinning around in time to see Adïmshyl bristling with rage, one battleaxe held against crossed swords. It took her a moment to realize that she knew that obsidian blade and its silver steel twin. But that moment came and went while Rhyshladlyn sidestepped and circled behind …

She stood at the farthest reaches of the courtyard, near where Eyrdo's main road spilled into it and watched as the Numbered Qishir struggled to Shield everyone from falling debris. The wind played with her charm-laden hair while Azriel, Thae'a, and Nhulynolyn worked to keep the Palace's integrity intact, shouting at each other over the …

Agony. Burning, itching, slowly taking over everything. Spreading sure and steady like the incoming tide, inevitable like death and just as powerful. Debilitating as it hit the lungs and filled them with no space for the air needed to keep vision clear. Inhale, exhale. A shudder that ran from head to toe and back again, …

They howled Their fury until the ground shook with the force of it and spun away from the pile of ashes that had once been Lílrt Greymend, the worthless Dhaoine that he had been. Crossed Their domain with a single purpose in mind: to see what this changed. Didn't care that the entire way there …

Thayne pinched the bridge of her nose, the only sign she was willing to show that her patience was wearing thin. Swallowed the undignified sigh that clogged her throat despite wanting to loose it on the hall because gods aplenty was she done. It was keenly obvious now, centuries after her death, why Lulphé had …

It was cold. So cold the air felt frozen, broken into tiny shards of ice that sliced the throat and slid down in a wash of too-hot blood. Choked and tore and gagged until they hit the stomach and the acid there dissolved them into a sloshing, slushy mess that threatened to come back up …

"Shiran City lives. An' I'm the Greywalker tied to it." He burned the air in his lungs speaking a curse that carried just enough magickal weight to it that fine cracks ran in the marble floor beneath his feet as the truth that hid behind the perfect mask of his Dhaoinic skin and face shifted …

"Rhys? Can I chat with you real quick?" She glanced at the doorway to the bedroom at Nhulynolyn who stood with one hand gripping the jamb as though he needed it to help keep him on his feet. Which likely wasn't inaccurate given that he still looked pale around his eyes and mouth and the …

Everything hurt. Gods it hurt. And for all that his jaw ached with how wide it was around a sound that never hit the vocal register, all he could do was grip the table hard enough that it creaked in protest before the wood splintered and gave way. He didn't even feel when his face …

Synopsis

The Seven Worlds follows the story of Rhyshladlyn Ka’ahne, an extraordinary Dhaoine born into and raised in conditions that should have broken him but didn’t.

It is a story about impossible choices, heartache, triumphs, horrors and nightmares, bravery, loss, and becoming. One that shows that even when the odds are stacked in your favor, you can still lose but that doesn’t mean you have to give up, only get up and try again but harder this time.

Rhyshladlyn Ka’ahne’s story has, was, and will always be a lesson in why faith isn’t just for the gods. That more often than not, it’s for ourselves first because sometimes family, hope, and love aren’t enough to win the big fight, to overcome every — let alone any — adversity. That sometimes you have to be your own savior.
