She watched from one of the parapets as Uncle, Jerald, and Eiod set out southwestward towards Ryphqi City and tried not to let the nausea that was having a seizure in her stomach crawl its way up into her throat. Tried to tell herself not to worry so much. It wasn't like they were taking …

He watched Anointed One Lílrt carry slave yshlad out of his room, cradled close to the Soul Healer's chest like one would hold something precious they didn't want to break. Watched Qishir Xitlali and her pet Cymerian, Iköl, follow behind the Soul Healer. It was difficult to watch from the top periphery of one's eyes …

It was like the past had repeated itself almost perfectly and it unnerved him. As though he was once again standing in the Keep at the heart of the Forest of Dreams and Darkness looking at Rhyshladlyn's prone, unconscious form. Only back then the Qishir had hung from magicked shackles in the workroom he'd been …

She didn't need Adïmshyl to come bursting through the front door of their house, his breath ragged and his magick winging out around him as his fear and his hope and his concern saturated the air, to tell her that something was wrong. She didn't even need him to tell her to look out the back windows …

It was hard to breathe. Like the air around him burned and was stagnant all at the same time. Like no matter what he did, his lungs just wouldn't work right. His throat hurt like he'd been screaming. His chest felt like some incredible weight was pressing it down, keeping him from expanding it properly. …

Thayne leaned over the same table she had sat at with both her Court and Rhyshladlyn's after learning about Shiran's Watchtowers. But now there wasn't refreshments spread across the dark mahogany surface but rather a map of what the Worlds looked like now. Specifically that of Imèn where it bordered Fènwa. Because she couldn't imagine …

She followed Azriel to the tallest tower of the Eighth Palace and out onto the balcony that overlooked the sprawling expanse of Eyrdo city where Thayne had rebuilt it after Zhalharaq's fall. The twinkling lantern lights and home fires that shown through the windows made the tumbling snow that fell in lazy, continuous sheets glitter …

He shadowed her down the hallway, watched the way her muscles shifted and bunched and relaxed in her arms as she swung them with just enough force to propel her body weight ever forward. Watched the way the skin beneath her tunic over her shoulderblades quivered with the need to throw her wings out to …

She slammed the door to her chambers forcefully enough to rattle the stone walls to either side of it. She was furious but it was a lie, it was a mask she had perfected over the centuries to hide her terror, to hide how even though she trusted Lílrt's work, how she trusted the research …

"How long has he been like this?" The trees were so beautiful this time of year as the snow fell in slow tumbles between them to the grass below. He caught glimpses of the iridescent flickers of Oiki in the far distance but he wasn't concerned with them. They weren't trying to lure him to …

Synopsis

The Seven Worlds follows the story of Rhyshladlyn Ka’ahne, an extraordinary Dhaoine born into and raised in conditions that should have broken him but didn’t.

It is a story about impossible choices, heartache, triumphs, horrors and nightmares, bravery, loss, and becoming. One that shows that even when the odds are stacked in your favor, you can still lose but that doesn’t mean you have to give up, only get up and try again but harder this time.

Rhyshladlyn Ka’ahne’s story has, was, and will always be a lesson in why faith isn’t just for the gods. That more often than not, it’s for ourselves first because sometimes family, hope, and love aren’t enough to win the big fight, to overcome every — let alone any — adversity. That sometimes you have to be your own savior.
