Jaro dropped from the Line in front of a house that was beautiful four decades ago but now looked like something out of a horror story. All the windows were blown out, the porch was sagging at one end as though some large creature sat upon it and hadn't moved. The paint was peeling in …

In all directions there were webs. Webs with intricate patterns. Webs with strands as thick around as a warrior's thigh. Webs so small a young's teardrop was larger. Webs that glowed as bright as the sun at midday. Webs that were as sheer as gossamer. Webs that hummed. Webs that sang. Webs that were torn …

"Healer."  "My Qishir." He stumbled back against the table behind him, thankful it was there. Thankful all the more so that no one had caught his reaction at that voice, to the Truth it held, at the extra meaning it added to that title. It was so hard not to be jealous of the Snake …

It was so cold. Cold and burning. Weightless and yet moving was impossible. There was so much noise. Yelling and screaming. Hiccuping sobs and gurgled pleas. The wet slap of bodies and soundless ripping as flesh split. Nausea rolled and instincts thrashed but it didn't help. Only made it worse. Something is here. Something that …

He opened his eyes and hissed as the sun blinded him. Cursing under his breath he closed his eyes again, wondered how the fuck, never mind when, he'd gotten on the ground. The last thing he remembered was running after Rhyshladlyn as his Qishir jumped from Line to Line. Then everything went white and agony-ridden and …

The humming didn't sound any louder than it normally did, but the tone of it was off. All dips and rising pitches and a chirping birdsong-like melody that was just loud enough to be caught over the every day City noises. The closer he drew to that humming, glowing Tower, the slower he walked until …

The floor was cold and hard where it pressed against his knees through his pants but he took no real notice of it beyond that. His nails were broken and bleeding, cut down to the quick from where he'd scratched and clawed at the stone beneath him when his body had seized and flailed. His …

His back hit a tree with enough force it shook and he couldn't be certain if the crack that followed was the trunk or his back. Growling both in defiance and to curtail the want to scream despite not feeling a lick of pain, he threw his arms up in time to curl his fingers around the …

The further he got from N'phier City, the less afraid he became. But in place of that abject terror and the panic it produced anger took root. And with each loping stride he took, with each leap from one Line to another, dodging Dhaoine and Line Carriages as he went, that anger grew. With each …

Synopsis

The Seven Worlds follows the story of Rhyshladlyn Ka’ahne, an extraordinary Dhaoine born into and raised in conditions that should have broken him but didn’t.

It is a story about impossible choices, heartache, triumphs, horrors and nightmares, bravery, loss, and becoming. One that shows that even when the odds are stacked in your favor, you can still lose but that doesn’t mean you have to give up, only get up and try again but harder this time.

Rhyshladlyn Ka’ahne’s story has, was, and will always be a lesson in why faith isn’t just for the gods. That more often than not, it’s for ourselves first because sometimes family, hope, and love aren’t enough to win the big fight, to overcome every — let alone any — adversity. That sometimes you have to be your own savior.
